Beekeeping in Morazan

Climate change, deforestation, progress of the agricultural frontier and monocultures are problems facing the beekeeping. To achieve profitability it is important to improve yields of the beekeeping production, with changes in the handling and application of modern techniques in the hives.
Ongoing training
The beekeepers of Morazán get technical assistance from FECANM. They are participating in theoretical practical meetings in San Francisco Gotera and Perquín. The topics range from the basics of apiary management, pests, diseases, artificial feeding, breeding and use of standard materials for beekeeping. They hire technicians and specialists to address the issues, besides attending international courses.
It is not enough to increase the efficiency of production to ensure the profitability of beekeeping. It is also necessary to abandon the traditional pattern of just selling raw materials.
Good Practice
They have designed a tracking system for the beekeeping to identify: municipality code, number of beekeeper, apiary number, and number of beehive, with the aim of verifying from the processing plant the exact origin of the incoming batch of honey to process, thereby avoiding possible sources of contamination, ensuring the quality of raw materials. Stainless steel equipment are used for extracting honey, distributed in the apiaries, implemented the Good Manufacturing Practices from the selection of honeycomb, extraction, filtration to the packaging in PET of food grade.
