Propolis

Propolis has its origins in the young shoots of the trees, but also in the fractures in the bark from which it springs resin, which is collected by bees and mixed with the help of their salivary secretions. Bees use propolis to cover the walls of the hive, closing cracks and varnishing the wooden parts of the hive.
Propolis is also used to embalm corpses of animal invaders, which by its size can not be thrown out of the hive, in order to fight bacteria and fungi that may affect it.
Multiple Therapeutic Effects
The flavonoids of propolis, as principal element, present no less than 40 therapeutic actions; nonetheless they have found the biological activity of other components, such as aromatic acids, terpenes, quinones, among others.
Many civilizations throughout history, took advantage of the benefits of therapeutic propolis, especially its antiseptic and healing abilities.
Antibacterial and Antiviral Action
Propolis has entered the field of prophylaxis and therapy of numerous diseases for its antibacterial, antiviral, antifungal and antiparasitic. These elements are conducive to the fight against free radicals and prevent oxidation and peroxidation of cell and tissue, preventing the onset of degenerative diseases such as diabetes, rheumatism, premature aging, cancer, cardiovascular, and cerebrovascular processes.
Reduces the Development of Cancer
The isolation of some compounds of propolis as esters of caffeic acid, have demonstrated significant inhibition of the development of cancer cells, especially in the human colon.
Other Important Properties:
- A stimulant of the immune system.
- Limits the body's allergic responses.
- Influences in reducing cholesterol levels.
- Regulates blood pressure.
Scientific Studies
Formulations based on propolis have found many areas of medical application. The scientific study of this has helped corroborate their biological and therapeutic actions for over 50 years, through laboratory studies, preclinical and clinical, which has proved a therapeutic alternative with insurmountable results.
